This joint report of the Food and Agricultural Organization of the  United Nations (FAO) and the United Nations Economic and Social  Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) aims to enhance the  understanding of risks confronting farmers, especially smallholders,  assess the policy and institutional options to strengthen farmers resilience, and reduce their vulnerability to these risks (January-October 2019).

International Consultant for the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for the Asian Development Outlook (ADO) 2019: Strengthening Disaster Resilience (September 2018- April 2019). The ADO analyzes economic and development issues  in developing countries in Asia.  The 2019 theme chapter focuses on the rising disaster risks and costs in developing countries across the Asia Pacific Region. The findings of the report indicate that suitable policy interventions are required to keep disaster losses from spiralling into the future and across the region. It recommends that governments should continue to integrate disaster risk reduction into broader development policies and public investment strategies as spending on disaster prevention continues to lag far behind disaster response and access to credit, insurance, and remittances remains sparse and uneven. The report also argues that immediate humanitarian response could be better coordinated, and that managing disaster risk can enhance equity, resilience, and sustainability.

Guest Editor of Sustainability Journal Special Issue on Transforming Development and Disaster Risk. This Special Issue focuses on the complex relationships between  development and disaster risk. Development and disaster risk are closely  linked as the people and assets exposed to risk, as well as their  vulnerability and capacity, are largely determined by developmental  processes. Transformation is key to moving away from current development  patterns that increase, create or unfairly distribute risks, to forms  of development that are equitable and resilient.
